Thermal imaging has proven invaluable for inspecting equipment such as motors, rotating equipment, and steam traps. Most of these applications are qualitative. Excessive heat is a sign of impending trouble when dealing with mechanical systems. Thermography can detect excessive electrical resistance, worn components, lubrication failure, or other common problems which can lead to expensive or even catastrophic failures.
